Virus info

The Village of Norridge has posted a bulletin of info about COVID-19, including information from the Village’s health commissioner earlier in the month about the symptoms of the virus and how it is transmitted.

The Illinois Governor’s website has info about the virus and the disaster proclamations.

The Eisenhower Public Library also has a page up containing virus related info.

Statewide shelter in place and business closures

The Illinois governor has ordered a “shelter-in-place” partial lockdown of the entire state. Businesses considered “non-essential” by the state are ordered to close as of 5PM 3/21/20. Residents are told to remain in their homes unless they need to be out shopping for essentials, such as groceries, medical supplies including prescriptions, carry out meals at participating restaurants, fuel such as gasoline and diesel, and seeking medical attention, and other activities. If you are out, keep at least six feet distance from any other people at all times. Despite appearance, COVID-19 disease carriers may not be showing symptoms.

Walgreens and CVS are providing free delivery of prescriptions.

A number of stores are reserving hours for seniors and other vulnerable populations. Included are Mariano’s is between 6:00AM and 8:00AM every day, Aldi on Tuesday and Thursday between 8:30AM to 9:30AM, Target on Wednesdays during their “first opening hour”, which as of this writing is between 8:00AM to 9:00AM, and Jewel on Tuesday and Thursday between 7:00AM to 9:00AM. A full list of participating realtors is available on the Illinois Retail Merchants Association website.

A local Facebook group has been created – Norridge COVID-19 Grassroots Response – of volunteers willing to perform shopping for essentials such as groceries, for those most vulnerable such as seniors and others with compromised immune systems.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) has implemented new rules that expand unemployment benefits to employees laid off as a result of the state’s virus remediation efforts. You should file for unemployment benefits immediately upon a layoff.
